These are drawings done directly from life, directly on the iPad - using an app called Brushes, that records every mark and gesture as it is made.

In these first two drawings I was experimenting with pastel colours and texture - I quite like the feel that they give - 1950's Vogue magazine illustration.

The movies show how I do a very quick sketch first, as a sort of scaffold - then reduce the transparency on that layer, building up detail on subsequent layers, the colour layer sitting behind the drawing layers.

Both these drawings were done using a stylus, the first with an Alupen, the second with a pogostick
